1. My parents
2. Anyone who tries really hard no matter the talent level.
3. People taller than me. :)
On November 10, 2008 I decided to walk in the Little Rock Marathon in Arkansas in March of 2009 and was on a very good program. I built up and did 14 miles the day after Christmas with an average speed of 15:20 a mile which was fast for me. The next day I was crushed by a tree I was cutting down and it broke my back, a rib, gave me a severe concussion, a whiplash and bruised my kidney and liver. A cow and a dog licked me to awaken me and finally the rain kept me awake. I became shocky with the cold wet rain and decided to get up and try to live rather than lie under a thorn tree and die. I made it up and walked back to my truck, 6-12 inch steps at a time and drove home somehow in reverse. A couple of weeks later I had a blood clot form in my leg and break loose sending multiple clots thru my heart into my right lung called a pulmonary embolism. A couple weeks later my gallbladder and liver gave out and I developed hepatitis. Three times within a short time I could have died but I didn't. I couldn't walk 20 feet at first or dress myself or bathe myself but I slowly improved to 100 feet and just kept walking and slowly improving until I did the 5k at Little Rock. It felt like a marathon to me. It took 4 months from the day I was hurt to when I was able to return to work which was a remarkable recovery. My back is still broken and isn't healing well but I believe the walking has been the best medicine I could have. I tell people my back may be broken but my legs aren't. I want to do a full Marathon. I have an intense desire and burning to walk. I've learned to never give up, never give up, never give up.
I am interested in racewalking but for now will just have to settle for fitness walking. I'm proud of my son who ran his first two marathons already this year, I am there to support him. Just the fact that I can walk is truly a gift from God. My leg muscles are returning, they had turned to mush after having 2 1/2 months off. The walkers high I get from walking offsets my problems with post traumatic stress syndrome that sometimes plagues me. I love this walking site, there are others out there beside me that have that burning desire to walk. I'm not crazy, just peculiar, I have just Got2walk.| Title | Type | Date |

6-09 Met a skunk in the road at 5:07 am with his tail up and rear end pointed at me, he wouldn't step aside. He made me walk his pace until he found a
driveway to exit into
7-5-09 I scared a little kid as I was walking around a track towards him. It made me feel bad. He ran from me like I was a killer, he was terrified, his little
legs were really moving.
7-5-09 I have to hold my breath when meeting other people out walking that have applied to much deodorant. Good for the deodorant companies, bad for people
with sensitive noses.
9-30-09 Lucy took a direct facial spray from a skunk then walked next to me for the next 8 miles. It stunk horribly and I couldn't get the stench out of my
nostrils. I ended up with a migraine type headache from it all. Poor Lucy learned the hard way to keep her nose out of other animals business

Wow, what a story! I'm so happy to hear that you are recovering and keeping a positive attitude. Although not nearly the same, I do understand somewhat what you have been going through. Four years ago I was involved in a car accident on my way to work and suffered a substantial knee injury. Three months after the accident I developed three blood clots around my knee. With permanent restrictions of no running, jumping, squatting, kneeling, or aggressive activities, I was forced to take an early retirement from my job as a police officer. I got back on track and started walking about 18 months ago. I just found this group a few weeks ago, and they are wonderful. The support you will find here is amazing. Keep going strong and keep walking!
